John Leslie - Managing Director
John Leslie’s experience spans over 30 years, including all facets of letterbox distribution. He is well known & well respected in the industry. He was first introduced to this industry, when his wife Heather took on a casual job, as a letterbox distributor, soon advancing to her position of Area Supervisor.
It wasn’t long before John found himself swept up by a major player, & promoted to the role of Victorian Field Controller. After several years, & seeking to advance his career, he started in a new role, only to find himself approached by another major player, in the industry, three weeks later. In his new role as Victorian Distribution Manager, he set about to use his previous skills, to improve their distribution network, which was a major contributing factor, to a significant increase in sales, for his new employer.
Some-time later, & wishing to utilise his accounting background, as well as his letterbox distribution expertise further, he formed his first business Red Cap Distributors. Using his vast knowledge of all aspects of the business, he developed unique software, which managed the walker network, linked with specialised mapping software, & all the associated accounting controls.He ran this family business for nearly 20 years, until approached by both of his major competitors, to sell the business. Despite having several lucrative contracts, in the offering, from a major supermarket chain, & major newspaper group, John & Heather decided to sell the business at it’s peak.
He continued to run Red Cap Distributors for a contracted period of 3 years, for the new owner, exceeding all expectations of this employer. Their sons Campbell & Murray continued to work in the business for a short time. John & Heather enjoyed the retirement for a short while, but it wasn’t long before the passion was rekindled, by family, friends, and past industry connections. Independent Letterbox was born.
It wasn’t long before Campbell & Murray were knocking on the door, & joined the family business once again. The family works together, as a well-oiled machine, each contributing a wealth of experience, to the business.
Murray Leslie - National Sales & Marketing Manager
With more than 19 years experience working full time in the industry, Murray is your local letterbox distribution expert. You could say that Murray was born into the industry having lived and breathed letterbox from a very young age. In the early years he began helping his parents in all facets of the business.
With the idea in mind of following in his fathers footsteps, Murray studied business management and accounting as his favourite subjects. After leaving school, he asked his parents if he could join the business and started a traineeship as his older brother Campbell had done. So then he too began his course at MEGT (Melbourne East Group Training) studying business administration with on the job and off the job training.
After completing the training, Murray completed courses in sales and marketing and began learning about customer service. Murray then in his early 20s convinced Dad that we needed a business coach and so we began working with Casey Gollan. Following this, the company grew 45% in 9 months which lead to the sale of the first business Red Cap Distributors back in 2003. Now at the age of 25, Murray went on to work for the new owners, and gained valuable experience with them and managed to grow the business ever more over the next few years.
At the age of 30 Murray was approached by another large player in the market and began working for them as a senior sales executive for a couple of years before deciding in 2011 to join his family again in the new business Independent Letterbox which has now become a great success.

Campbell Leslie - Warehouse & Operations Manager
With over 20 years in the letterbox distribution industry, Campbell has the experience and know how. From walking leaflets, to supervising a team of walkers, to managing the warehouse. Campbell's position in the company is very crutual, as he is responsible for all printed material both in bound and out bound. Campbell's extremely thougher and his attention to detail is spot on.
Darren Zorgdrager - Account Co-ordinator
Introducing Darren Zorgdrager.... Darren has worked in the Royal Australian Airforce for 10 years and in the Australian Public Service for a further two as an Intelligence Analyst. Due his time in the air force, Darren has been trained to work with attention to detail and have excellent organisational skills. Darren also has good communication skills which have developed through dealing with internal and external stakeholders. Darren has the proven ability to communicate clearly, ensuring that information given on behalf of the team is accurate, timely and unambiguous. We beleive Darren will be a great asset to the business and also great for our clients to deal with. Commencing Monday, please welcome Darren to Independent Letterbox.
